Rumour has it this Summer’s going to be a scorcher in London Town. What better way to cool off than with a visit to one of the city’s fantastic and most iconic splash pads? Perfect for kids of all ages (and adults who are young at heart), these watery playgrounds offer a free, fun and refreshing escape. Here are a few of the most iconic London splash pads that are sure to make a splash with your family.

Jeppe Hein’s ‘Appearing Rooms’
Dates: 28th May – 25th August 2025
This isn’t your average splash pad. Jeppe Hein’s interactive art installation features “rooms” that appear and disappear as walls of water rise and fall. It’s a thrilling and unpredictable experience that will have everyone laughing and squealing with delight. The random nature of the water makes it exciting, and it’s a great way to combine art and play.
The Southbank is a great place to while away a summers day. This part of the river is lined with street artists, performers and some fairground rides as welll as lots of family friendly restaurants. Tucked under Waterloo Bridge is the famous Southbank book market. I love to rummage through the rows of interesting second hand books on offer whilst my older kids love to marvel at the talented skateboarders in the graffiti clad skate park opposite.
Granary Square Fountains
These choreographed fountains are a sight to behold, with 1,080 individually controlled and illuminated jets. During the day, kids can run through the water and play amongst the jets, while at night, the fountains transform into a stunning display of light and color.
The surrounding area of Granary Square also offers plenty of family-friendly restaurants and cafes. During the Summer there is a free open air film festival hosted by Everyman called Screen on the Canal, where you are invited to pull up a deck chair and enjoy movies as well as lives from Wimbledon and the Tour De France.
Nearby you will also find the London Canal Museum and Lightroom, an immersive gallery which is due to host Prehistoric Planet: Discovering Dinosaurs from 9th July.

Edmond J. Safra Fountains
When: 2025 Summer Dates TBC
The Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court at Somerset House provides a beautiful backdrop for some watery fun. The elegant fountains offer a more sophisticated splash pad experience, where kids can play in the jets while parents relax and enjoy the stunning architecture.
Somerset House is located right at the heart of London’s West End sandwiched between the Strand and the River. It is perfectly placed to combine with a West End Musical Matinee and it’s proximity to Embankment makes it easily accessed by the river boat too.
There is a cafe onsite but you are welcome to bring your own picnic.

Diana Memorial Fountain
When: All year round, except for extreme weather
This unique and moving memorial to Princess Diana is a hugely popular spot for families come the summer months. The circular fountain features water flowing in two directions, creating a gentle and inviting space for paddling and splashing. It’s a great place for reflection and fun, and its location in Hyde Park means there’s plenty more to explore.
This Summer the nearby Serpentine Gallery presents the Play Pavillion, a special art commission in partnership with Lego. The Serpentine itself also offers a wealth of wildlife to entertain nature lovers – stroll the perimeter of hire a pedal boat!
The world class Natural History Museum and Science Museum are also just a 10 minute walk from the Diana Memorial Fountains. More Ideas for entertaining Kids in Knightsbridge.
