Headed to the Southbank this half Term? Don’t miss this!
Presented by Motionhouse, Starchitects is a 55min whirlwind of circus and contemporary dance set against a backdrop of stunning digital projections.
Billed as part of the much loved ‘Imagine’ Children’s festival at Southbank, ‘Starchitects’ is crammed with gravity defying feats and ‘hold your breath’ lifts, tumbles and balances.
The story follows five young and spritely performers whose sleepover turns into an imaginary trip to outer space, navigating lava flows, a fluorescent slinky alien and treacherous caves.
Children will love this colourful and playful show which serves as an accessible introduction to circus arts and contemporary dance theatre. Expect lots of gasping as performers throw one another around like bean bags and tender duets which will appeal to young ballet dancers in the making.
I took my three boys aged 5,6 and 8 who were most impressed by the stunning visual projections cleverly simulating a space rocket ride and bubbling volcanic landscapes of faraway planets. They were also thrilled by the performers diving, swinging and crashing through the projection seemingly causing ripples and cracks with astonishingly convincing effect.
All in all a high energy and unforgettable piece of children’s theatre that is full of surprises.
Starchitects runs from Thursday 15th Feb until Saturday 17th Feb at Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank. Recommended ages 3-11. Be sure to combine with free events taking place at the Children’s Imagine Festival. Book Here
